We reuse all of the cardboard boxes that our supplies are shipped to us in, as long as they’re still in good shape. Yes, you may be able to see where an old shipping label was peeled off, but we promise it won’t change what’s in the box!

Our suppliers use brown packing paper, which we reuse when packing up orders of our own.

Some orders are wrapped in green tissue paper produced by Seaman, with resources on their sustainability practices below:

  • Made in the USA

  • SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative)

  • FSC (Forest Stewardship Council)

  • PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forestry Certification)

In 2008, Seaman became certified for Chain of Custody under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative Program (SFI) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC). In 2009, Seaman became certified for Chain of Custody under the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Program. These programs provide independent third party verification that fiber used in operations comes from sources that promote sustainability and minimize environmental impact.

In 2017, Seaman used approximately 838,000 gallons of water per day from the adjacent Otter River. After use in the paper making operation, this water receives primary and secondary treatment in Seaman’s private waste water treatment plant. The plant is able to remove over 99% of the solids and biochemical-oxygen demand in the wastewater.

In 2017, 72% of Seaman’s purchased electricity came from sources that did not emit greenhouse gases.

In 2017, they were able to replace 1,623,006 gallons of oil with 28,225 tons of biomass (shredded wood pallets and whole tree wood chips).

Through recycling initiatives, Seaman was able to divert 94.6% of its wastes from going to the landfill in 2019. They soon hope to achieve a zero waste system.

No Commute! In working from home, there is zero commuter carbon footprint in getting to work.

No Single-Use Items! We do not use paper towels, disposable cups, or sticky notes, but instead use cloth hand towels, ceramic mugs, and a dry-erase board.

We Recycle! Everything that can be recycled is recycled properly, including ink cartridges.
